Change @ JLP: Pricing Revamp

After a hard look at our 2008 price list, we realized they’re way too complicated.  Even with built-in collections, our current brides stepped outside the box and customized their own packages to reflect exactly what they’re looking for.  So we thought, “Why even bother offering collections?”

Beginning Feburary 27, 2008, all previous 2008 price lists are no longer valid.  (except for current, booked clients) E-mail us at janellelynnphotography@gmail.com for a new list!

no excuse NOT to vote

Election Day in Texas is coming up on March 4th, but you don’t have to wait until then to make our voices heard. We voted early for Barack Obama (see post from Monday), and we wanted to make sure you knew where to vote early too.
Check out a video of Barack at a rally in Houston and use this online tool to find your early vote location:

We hope you’ll join us in voting early — and in supporting Barack!

take a look at this. . . .

Hubby has been studying real hard at janelle lynn’s school of photography and I’m amazed at his images from Stephanie’s bridal session.  He’s really starting to come into his own with regards to composition and and lighting. Check it out:

In this image, he captured a perfect side profile shot.  Not only did he expose her well -  the background is blown out just enough so not to distract from his main subject.

Hubby found this patch of light that he spent 10 minutes positioning Stephanie in just right.  The sun was setting around this time and kept moving.  Everytime he got her in the right spot, then setup his shot, the sun would move and he’d have to move her all over again. :-P  I told him not to worry, overtime he’ll be able to setup shots faster.

Another one he shot of Stephanie twirling in her pretty dress.  I love how the light hits her face just right while seeing the motion of her dress and veil.

GREAT job hubby!!!

Our Weekend

Hey Guys!

Well…it has been an eventful weekend for the both of us! Tiger Woods won yet another golf tournament to move him ahead of Arnold Palmer for career wins, and get this: Tiger is only 32 yrs old! Also, we went to Ayleene and Andell’s baby shower, and had a great time there. It was a beautiful event, and we hope thst when our time comes, that we can have a shower thrown for us like the one we were at today. :) The highlight of our weekend has to be Stephanie’s bridal shoot on Sat. in Spring, TX. This was our 1st “official” collaboration, and I can’t be more proud of it than I am. :) Right now, we are watching the Academy Awards, and are actually enjoying it. Fancy that, huh?! Anyway, here’s hoping everyone has a great week, and let me say to all of you: Go out there and vote! Primary elections are on March 4th, but early voting is in progress. Ok, that’s it!

Cheers!

Stephanie’s Bridal Session

Whew! What a long day! Today, hubby and I shot Stephanie’s bridals at Fontenot Grand Mansion in Spring, TX. Originally, she wasn’t planning to have bridals taken but after her engagement session in January she changed her mind. ;-) I LOVE it when this happens as, for me, it’s one of the highest compliments a client can give me. Stephanie loved her engagement pictures so much that she couldn’t pass up an opportunity to get pictures in her beautiful dress. In my opinion, she not only got pictures in her beautiful dress she got GORGEOUS pictures! Her hair and make-up was done by the FABULOUS Andrea Walker of Makeup By Andrea. I KNOW Stephanie is checking the blog for her sneak peek ;-) so without further adieu here it is! (warning! LOTS and LOTS of images ahead)

A few more:

It’s soooooo much fun being a bride. While we were setting up for a shot, hubby caught Stephanie twirling around.

The grounds at Fontenot Mansion are beautiful both inside and outside as there were so many nooks and crannies to shoot. The staff was so nice and accomodating. We basically had the run of the place - we could move anything, i.e. furniture, vases, etc. we wanted as long as we put it back.

Bridal sessions for brides can be pretty nerve-wracking. At engagement sessions, there’s two of you and you can play off each other’s nervous energies. At bridal sessions, you’re IT. I pride myself in getting couples and brides to relax that by the end of the session we’re having so much fun that they forget about the camera.

I LOVE the eyelashes:

Last, but not least the little details:

the ring, of course!

the pretty shoes:

and what’s a wedding dress without pretty jewlery?

This was one of the longest sessions on record for JLP - 3.5 hours and we had a BLAST hanging out with Stephanie and her mom Donna.  We cannot wait to shoot your wedding in March.

Note to current clients (and prospective ones) let’s schedule a bridal session!!!  If it’s not already included in your current contract let me know and we’ll work it out. :-)

Houston Zoo

After a day of wet, miserable weather we woke up to a gorgeous day yesterday. What better way to spend it than at the zoo! Warning! lots and lots of pictures ahead. I took all of these with my 50mm lens.

First up were the Sea Lions. We were lucky enough to watch the zookeepers feed them. Apparently Sea Lions are highly intelligent and need to constantly be stimulated.

This is the LARGEST catfish I’ve ever seen.

This baby giraffe is only two weeks old!

These cute pups are only 7 months old! Aren’t they adorable??!!

As a result of the writer’s strike my favorite show is Orangutan Island on Animal Planet and I’ve been wanting to visit the primate exhibit for the past few weeks. Isn’t he handsome??

Catherine and Scott’s Wedding

Hubby and I attended a wedding as a guest last night. It felt sooooo different to not be running around shooting or planning for the next shot. Of course, I brought along our little point and shoot camera so I could take some pictures.

Catherine looked beautiful walking down the aisle to the theme of Star Wars.

Hubby and I at the reception:
Our table assignment had us right at the edge of the dance floor and I was determined that we sit in the seats closest to the floor. You see, there was something setup in the middle of the floor and I wanted to be near the action. Hubby hem and hawed but I eventually got my way. (as I always do) Well, after the bridal party introductions 4 chinese dragons came out and started dancing the the beat of this very large drum. We were right next to one of the dragons and it immediately singled hubby out. Poor guy! He was sitting there quietly drinking his tea with a dragon dancing in front of him - making goo goo eyes nonetheless! LoL I was rolling on the floor laughing! During this ordeal, Hubby kept pointing to me and saying, “This is all your fault! YOU wanted to sit next to the dance floor!” over and over again. I was laughing so hard I was unable to press the shutter to take a pictures. The dragons eventually worked their way around the ballroom and hubby was spared.
I can’t wait to share this story with our kids someday. :-)

Joy’s Family Session Slideshow

In the midst of redesigning our blog and updating our brand colors I completely forgot to post Joy’s family sesson slideshow. Hubby and I met Joy and the women in her family a few weeks ago at Helen’s Park. They wanted a generational photograph along with some shots of the babies, etc.

Isn’t this a great photo?? I wish I would have done something like this when my Grandmothers were still with us. This is something that will be cherished for years to come.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Hubby and I love celebrating Valentine’s day - why not? Yes, it’s day totally exploited by retailers and Hallmark and our view is to enjoy it for what it is. A day to celebrate and express the joy in being together and loving one another.

This morning our alarm went off at 5:30am like normal and Hubby immediately got up. This is very rare in our household as I’m the one usually poking and prodding him to get his booty out of bed. I didn’t think anything about it and went back to sleep for my 10 minute ’snooze.’ I was getting ready in the bathroom when my Hubby walks in with a coffee mug in one hand, a plate in the other and a bottle of syrup under his arm. The picture he made was so hilarious and cute! He can be such a sweetie sometimes. ;-)

He made heart shaped pancakes!
then gave me my Valentine’s present - a brand new pair of Kangaroos!!!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these tennis shoes - they’re comfortable, relatively inexpensive (compared to Nike) and cute! This is my third pair! :-P

Later in the day I received a small arrangemet of pink and red tulips - my favorite flower!

Thank you Hubby for a great Valentine’s day! :-)
